Dream Therapy

What is Dream Therapy?

Rapid eye movement sleep (REM sleep) is a normal stage of sleep characterized by the random movement of the eyes. REM sleep is classified into two categories: tonic and phasic.

REM sleep in adult humans typically occupies 20–25% of total sleep, about 90–120 minutes of a night's sleep. During a normal night of sleep, humans usually experience about four or five periods of REM sleep; they are quite short at the beginning of the night and longer toward the end. Some people tend to wake, or experience a period of very light sleep, for a short time immediately after a bout of REM.

REM sleep is physiologically different from the other phases of sleep, which are collectively referred to as non-REM sleep (NREM sleep). Vividly recalled dreams mostly occur during REM sleep.
Dream therapy is not dream interpretation; it is purely a means of confronting our subconscious, or even our conscious, dilemmas and finding a way to lead a healthier and more creative life.

Dream therapy is an ongoing process of self-discovery.  It is a process that takes time and commitment on the individual's part. In dream therapy the theory is that the reason we dream is to identify feelings or information in our mind that we have either suppressed, which prevents us from moving forward, or not even thought of yet.

With dream therapy only the person with the dream can truly come to understand or interpret them, because all of the odd symbols, people, events and freaky happenings in their dreams are extremely personal and individual. So you see, dream therapy is more than dream interpretation. It is a means of confronting our subconscious, or even our conscious dilemmas, and finding a way to lead a healthier and more creative life.

Dream therapy is as individual as you are. What one symbol means to your subconscious is probably totally different for someone else, but in saying that, Psychologist Carl Jung developed theories of Anima (women) and Animus (men) involving the feminine and masculine principles and the collective unconscious symbols known as Archetypes.  These Archetype patterns derive from a universal collective unconscious, which in metaphysics is called the Grids, Akashic Records or Super Consciousness, which creates our reality.  In this context the archetypal principals allows the mind to create stories.

Dream therapy isn't used only as a means of figuring out your subconscious dilemmas, it is also a means of finding out how to handle a current situation. The popular comment of “Let me sleep on it” is now more empowering and insightful; if you take a few minutes before falling asleep to ask your mind to give you a dream that shows a clear solution to your problem.

Consider the brain as the main sorter of information, an advanced filing system or even a computer mainframe.  It tries taking random information from both our conscious and subconscious levels and attempts to impose a sequence of symbols, images, characters and events, as a movie producer would to tell the prefect story.   This story will show a clear solution to your problem.

Why choose Dream Therapy?

An effective dream therapist does not interpret your dreams, but by listening, asking pertinent questions, providing the silence and space you will come to your own insights and awareness. It is your dream and you own it and its powerful message in its entirety.

Testimonials

My sessions with Yvonne were always helpful. She has a wonderful way of drawing solutions out of me that (in the beginning) I lacked the skillset to recognise on my own. Now I can confidently draw on my own knowledge and past experiences to solve my own problems.

After my sessions with Yvonne I am now able to recognise destructive behavioural patterns and also stress indicators. Her mix of practical life coaching and the power of dream symbolism and spirituality worked really well for me. It was also made clear from the very first session that she caters to each individual and their needs. I would (and have) recommend Yvonne to friends, family and strangers.
